A
Vision of Our Community
The
following Vision Statement is based on comments from the community-wide
meeting held in January, 1998.
Brighton, the western gateway to Boston, will be known as the
most inviting neighborhood in the city. It will remain a residential
community where families choose to raise their children, and where
all feel welcome. The business community will serve the needs
of Brighton residents, who are loyal to the stores and services
available locally. Residents and merchants will value Brighton’s
historic architecture, location, and good public transportation,
as well as its cultural, social and economic diversity.
Brighton Main Streets promotes the revitalization of the Washington
Street neighborhood commercial district, anchored by Brighton
Center and Oak Square. Our objective is to create an attractive
commercial area that houses a broad business mix, and features
a welcoming street scape and attractive architecture. Brighton
Main Streets strives to maintain the neighborhood feeling of its
commercial district, where business owners and residents take
pride in the appearance of their houses and stores. We seek to
foster collaboration among business and civic groups in the Main
Street effort, contributing to a cooperative community spirit.
