Brighton Main Streets Workers Relief Fund
In Massachusetts, 2 in 5 workers lack sufficient savings to withstand sudden loss in wages. Brighton's businesses are currently struggling to keep their workers employed. In this crisis, they need our help to keep local workers' basic needs covered.
We're providing cash assistance to Brighton's workers of all kinds who need the money. In many cases this short term assistance will help buy groceries, pay a utility bill, or cover a gap until additional assistance or unemployment benefits can be accessed.
Brighton Main Streets has established the Brighton Main Streets Workers Relief Fund, a dedicated resource for workers affected by the COVID-19 public health emergency. Grants will be made for $250 to help individuals in our community impacted by the COVID-19 crisis meet their basic food, childcare and housing needs.
In collaboration with Charlesview Inc., who has generously provided 100% of the seed funding, a total of $12,500 will be awarded to employees of Brighton based businesses. An identical fund has been set up for workers of Allston businesses (Allston Village Workers Relief Fund ).
Individuals who have worked at a Brighton based business are welcome to apply for this grant. (Application at the bottom of this page.)
The grant applications will be reviewed and grants will be awarded as quickly as possible. The following criteria for receiving a $250 grant award will be used:
- Employed by a Brighton business, located in zip code 02135.
- Laid off of work from that business since Feb 15, 2020.
