Top 10 Most Frequently Asked Questions
at Brighton Police Station |
301 Washington Street - Brighton, Massachusetts 02135-3357 - Telephone: 617 343 4260

1. WHO TOWED MY CAR?

If your car was towed, you must have done what signs warned you not to do. The Boston Police Department’s tow line is 617-343-4629. This is the number that you can call and give your plate number to find out whether the vehicle was towed. If your vehicle was not towed, visit us with you license, registration, title or insurance policy so that we may start the search for your stolen vehicle.

2. WHERE DO I PARK IF I DO NOT HAVE A RESIDENT STICKER?

If you do not have a parking permit, you may not park where signs advise: NO PARKING or RESIDENT STICKER ONLY. Private, off-street parking is allowed, of course. You may also park in metered spaces and spaces for VISITOR PARKING.

3. HOW DO I GET A PARKING PERMIT FOR BRIGHTON-ALLSTON?

Visit the Parking Clerk at Boston City Hall. Bring with you your license, registration, and a current utility bill (or another bill showing proof of address). There is no fee, but without all three items you will need to return again!

4. WHERE IS BRIGHTON DISTRICT COURT?

The address of Brighton District Court is 52 Academy Hill Road, which is one block from Brighton Center on Chestnut Hill Avenue -- on your left as you are headed toward Brookline. If you know the location of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and the District 14 Police Station on Washington Street, you can find the Court House. As you head toward Newton (away from Boston) on Washington Street, about 200 yards past the police station, turn left on Academy Hill Road and continue until you see the Court House on the left at the intersection of Academy Hill Road and Chestnut Hill Avenue.

5. IS BRIGHTON (AND ALLSTON) A SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD?

In a major metropolitan area, you can expect to hear news of crime and you may even be affected by it. The best policy is to lock your doors and windows when they are not in use. Of course, it is not wise to leave valuables exposed on you or in your vehicle or house. Use common sense: be smart, think sensibly.

6. WHEN I HAVE AN ACCIDENT, WITH WHOM DO I SPEAK AT THE POLICE STATION?

At the present time, the District 14 auto investigator is P.O. Michael Butler. He can be reached during business hours Monday through Friday.

7. WHO IS IN CHARGE AT THE DISTRICT 14 POLICE STATION?

The individual in charge of the police station depends on what time you call. District 14 police personnel include Patrolmen, Sergeants, and Lieutenants. All of them answer to Captain William Evans.

8. WHEN I HAVE A COMPLAINT ABOUT A LOUD PARTY, WITH WHOM DO I SPEAK AT THE POLICE STATION?

If you are home and the party is loud and affecting your ability to work or relax, call us at 911. A police car with officers trained for such eventualities will arrive at the party and handle the matter in a professional manner. In addition, police officers will complete an investigation report.

9. HOW DO I GET MY FINGERPRINTS TAKEN?

To get your fingerprints taken by the police, call the Identification Unit at 617-343-4425 and request an appointment. (The other way to have your fingerprints automatically taken is to get arrested and be a guest at “The Grey Bar Hotel.”)

10. HOW DO I OBTAIN A COPY OF A POLICE REPORT?

To obtain a copy of a police report regarding a matter that affects you, call Field Reports at 617-343-4450. There is a $5.00 charge for such a report, which can be paid in cash or by check or credit card with appropriate identification.
